(Riverbank,
CA) -Today, popular Stanislaus County Supervisor Bill O'Brien added
his endorsement for former Modesto City Councilwoman and 25th Assembly
District Republican front-runner Janice Keating. Supervisor O'Brien's
endorsement adds particular weight to the Keating campaign because
the highly regarded O'Brien was long considered the heir apparent
to Assemblyman Tom Berryhill.
"When
I decided not to run for Tom's seat, I took a good, hard look at the
field of candidates," said Supervisor O'Brien. "As a longtime taxpayer
advocate, it was particularly important to me that I support the candidate
who will stand shoulder to shoulder in defense of California taxpayers."
"Janice
Keating shares my commitment to cut wasteful government spending,
oppose higher taxes, and ensure that government exercises good fiscal
discipline," continued O'Brien. "She will also join me in the fight
to keep Sacramento from stealing local tax revenues in order to balance
its out-of-control budgets."
Bill
O'Brien previously served two terms as the Mayor of Riverbank before
being elected to the Stanislaus County Board of Supervisors in 2004.
With his district overlapping roughly half of the voters in the 25th
Assembly District, Supervisor O'Brien's endorsement gives the Keating
campaign a significant momentum boost, and he joins an ever-growing
list of Keating supporters including Modesto Mayor Jim Ridenour, among
dozens of others.
Janice
Keating was first elected to the Modesto City Council in 2001, where
she utilized her strong fundraising and broad-based grassroots effort
to unseat an incumbent. She has chaired the city's Finance and Economic
Development Committees and served as the Vice-Chair of the Audit Committee.
Janice has also served as a member of the Stanislaus Council of Governments,
the Modesto Irrigation District Domestic Water Policy Board, and the
Stanislaus County Family Justice Center Steering Committee, among
others.
In 2004,
Janice was honored in the state capitol as Woman of the Year from
the 25th Assembly District, named by then Assemblyman Dave Cogdill.
