(Madera,
CA) – Today, Madera County Sheriff John Anderson announced his support
for conservative Republican and 25th Assembly District front-runner
Janice Keating – adding a major law enforcement endorsement to Keating’s
growing list of local supporters.
“We need
Sacramento to build more prisons and keep criminals behind bars. Janice
Keating understands that,” said Sheriff Anderson. “When our state
budget is so out of whack that we can no longer afford to keep violent
criminals behind bars, then you know it’s time for change. Let me
tell you, Janice Keating is a fighter, and she’ll work hard to ensure
we fund public safety and that we find a way to keep prisoners in
jail. Janice knows that government’s first role is to protect the
people, and that’s why I am proud to support her.”
Sheriff
Anderson is in his third term as Madera Sheriff, and is widely considered
one of the most popular elected officials in Madera County. He joins
Modesto Mayor Jim Ridenour, along with National Tax Limitation Committee
President Lew Uhler and dozens of local GOP leaders in supporting
Janice Keating for Assembly.
Janice
Keating was first elected to the Modesto City Council in 2001, where
she utilized her strong fundraising and broad-based grassroots effort
that unseated an incumbent. She has chaired the city’s Finance and
Economic Development Committees and served as the Vice-Chair of the
Audit Committee. Janice has also served as a member of the Stanislaus
Council of Governments, the Modesto Irrigation District Domestic Water
Policy Board, and the Stanislaus County Family Justice Center Steering
Committee, among others.
In 2004,
Janice was honored in the state capitol as Woman of the Year from
the 25th Assembly District, named by then Assemblyman Dave Cogdill.
