(Modesto,
CA) - Former Modesto City Councilwoman Janice Keating, whose term recently
expired, is announcing her run to replace current Assemblyman Tom Berryhill.
Berryhill has announced his intention to run for Senate District 14
where current Senator Dave Cogdill has decided not to seek a second-term.
Janice is a lifelong Modesto resident and conservative Republican.
Keating
was first elected to the Modesto City Council in 2002, re-elected in
2005, chaired the Economic Development Committee and was Vice-Chair
of the Audit Committee. In 2004, she was selected by then Assemblyman
Dave Cogdill as "Woman of the Year" for the 25th Assembly District.
"I am humbled by the amount of local encouragement and support I am
receiving to run," noted Keating.
"In
the valley, we especially know that things have to change in Sacramento
and as a proud mom, businesswoman and Republican I can bring a fresh
face to this debate. I look forward to the campaign and representing
the area I call home and have raised my family."
In 2007, Janice lost to incumbent Supervisor Dick Monteith in a runoff
election by only 16 votes. In that campaign she raised over $275,000.
Recently, Janice single-handedly spearheaded a fundraising effort to
successfully pass the 2008 Measure M city accountability initiative
and raised over $110,000 in less than a month and a half.

District Domestic Water Policy Board. She attended Central Catholic
