"My passion has been jobs and economic growth, as well as efficiency in government. That's why I am running for Assembly." - Janice Keating
Sacramento has got to get serious about creating a job growth environment in our state. Laws like AB 32 threaten to permanently damage our ability to retain and grow new businesses and jobs. I will fight to immediately freeze harmful regulations such as AB 32. I’ve worked with the business community in Central California and I’ve seen first hand the harm that laws like AB 32 inflict on our economy. I will work to repeal the heavy taxes and bursonsome regulations that drive businesses to surrounding states, and I will join those who seek to enact meaningful tort reform, giving businesses the protection they need to ward off predatory lawsuits.
Taxes
and Spending Like most Republicans, I believe our state government is too large and spends way too much money. Also, like most Republicans, I oppose raising taxes. The difference is that I’ve had real experience as the Chair of the Audit Committee in Modesto where I identified and eliminated wasteful spending and saved taxpayers tens of thousands of dollars. In the Assembly, I will fight to enact a meaningful audit process that cuts waste and streamlines government.
Water Our state is long overdue in creating a comprehensive water policy, and with the water legislation enacted last year, there is at least some hope of an updated system. However, as with most things, if money is involved, there will be those who want to spend it on other things. That’s why I will fight to ensure that any bond money is, in fact, put to work on new dams and other storage, as well as updated infrastructure to effciently deliver water to its destination. I will also work on behalf of farms to ensure they are given planning priority so that there is never the danger of losing permanent crops simply due to poor planning.
Keeping Prisoners Behind Bars It's outrageous that our legislature has so overspent on meaningless programs that it no longer has funding for priorities like keeping prisoners behind bars. I oppose any early-release programs. Instead, I believe we need to cut all non-essential spending until we can afford to keep every last prisoner behind bars to serve their full sentence. I also strongly support the three-strikes law and support stronger sentences for violent criminals. We simply cannot compromise safety in our neighborhoods. |
